AFFORDABLE AUCTION
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2010
6:30 PM TO 11:00 PM
Are you new to RPEMS this year? Were you new last year? Then there’s a chance you’ve never been to the biennial Affordable Auction. By now, you’ve probably seen the announcements and posters about the Affordable Auction, but you may still be wondering what it’s all about. Yes, it’s the PTA’s major fund-raiser for the year, so all of the money raised funds wonderful things like field trips and assemblies for our kids, capital improvements to the school facilities and parent education evenings.
But it’s also a TON of fun! It’s an affordable evening out and a chance to mingle with Roland Park parents and staff in a festive, child-free setting. It’s a night to discover new local restaurants and services…and bid on them! It’s an opportunity to pick up hand-crafted items, many of which have been made by members of our school community. It’s a head-start on holiday shopping with gorgeous themed gift baskets. It’s a way to fulfill your promise to take the family out to more cultural and sporting events with our great ticket packages. It’s fabulous food, delicious drinks, marvelous music with friends new and old.
Now, we’re going to need stuff to auction off, naturally, so if you’d like to donate an item or service, please e-mail AA2010@rolandparkpublic.org or call 410.417.7367.
And, of course, events like this can only happen with the help of parent volunteers. (Hint: volunteering at the auction is a great way to meet people if you’re new to the school.) Please e-mail AA2010@rolandparkpublic.org or call 410.417.7367.
So you see, it’s fun AND educational AND it benefits our wonderful school. Buy your tickets in advance and save $5 each. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. So line up that sitter NOW for Friday, November 12.

Our partnership with Mamma’s Cucina continues for its 3rd year! This school year we are raising money with FAMILY NIGHT FIESTAS. Roland Park families will enjoy a great environment, terrific food, and camaraderie all while raising money for our children’s classrooms. This school year, each month is dedicated to a different grade. Each grade team lead will decide how the funds are used. Also, RPEMS now earns more $ the more we spend. So, show support on your child’s designated month as well as any others you choose.
You must have your Roland Park Coupon for it to count. They can be downloaded below or ask for one in the restaurant.

Many of you may know Cara Collins who is in 2nd grade at our school. She is a spunky little girl with down syndrome and has been a part of our RPES community for almost 4 years now. In May she was diagnosed with leukemia and is receiving treatment at Sinai Hospital’s pediatric oncology center. On Saturday, September 26, there will be a 5K race/walk called “Race for our Kids” to benefit Sinai’s pediatric oncology center. Would anyone be interested in getting together a RPEMS team with me to run/walk in Cara’s honor and raise money for the oncology center? Time is of the essence – registration deadline is next week. (Sorry – I just found out about the race last week.) Please check out their website www.raceforourkids.org and fill out the form below to contact Heather Franklin directly.
Update:
Thanks to all of you who have expressed interested in running/walking in the “Race for our Kids” on Sunday, September 26 in honor of Cara Collins. What an amazing supportive community! I have registered as team captain and named our team “RPEMS Buddies for Cara”. The website for registering on our team is https://www.kintera.org/faf/search/searchTeamPart.asp?ievent=344919&lis=1&kntae344919=4BEC1F0DB0034519AACB71BC6C3F5A00&supId=303599366&team=3929635
Ms. Barnes and the National Elementary Honor Society, as well as Ms. Gearhart are going to help us in our fundraising efforts within the school. If you would like to raise money by gathering sponsors for your individual participation that would be great as well!
Please let me know if you have any trouble registering or any questions. I will be in touch as info becomes available.
Thanks again for agreeing to help in any way you can!
