As we are entering into what seems to be a problem flu season, I would like to offer childcare for those parents whom have sick children and really need to work. I am currantly working PT and have lots of childcare experience. I would be limited to school hours and would only be willing to come to your homes but if this would help anyone please feel free to call me and if I am available I would be happy to help. The best way to contact me is my cell.

Hello.
My name is Vanessa Lopez. Although I am not new to RPEMS - I teach middle school visual art - my daughter, Aszana is.
I am sure tons of our kids attend the TWIGS program offered at Baltimore School for the Arts. I am not sure if there has been any type of informal twigs car pooling. My daughter attends Monday afternoons from 4-6pm.
If anyone is interested in car pooling, please let me know.

I'm pleased to see the discussion re traffic and some ideas being generated that don't involve adding turning lanes to Roland Ave and chopping down trees. However, I am thinking a good deal about the validity of encouraging a coop approach to school transportation-in part because I live in Tuxedo Park and find the increase in traffic and traffic speed each September a little frightening. Sending all those cars south to u-turn at St. Johns will no doubt create yet another clog and more dangerous conditions for the current walkers and bikers from St. Johns and elsewhere in the southern neighborhoods.
We are big fans here of mass transit of schoolchildren; we have a 10th grade AM/PM BSA bus rider and had four years of the Fabulous City College carpool-first one car, them expanding to two. Last year there were 8 kids from T.Park and Evergreen and we only drove one week out of 6!!!!A gas and nerve saver bar none!
We also have a neighborhood "footpool", another great advantage for all. PLEASE lets find a way to connect folks who are able to car(/bike or foot)pool to reduce energy consumption, traffic congestion, and parental stress levels. Sign ups on line or elsewhere linking folks by street, grade, neighborhood or whatever- with technology this could be easily accomplished for those who would like to give it a try.
Thanks all
Sarah

The idea of incentives for walking/biking/carpooling to school is troubling to me because the decision is not one that my son can make on his own. I drive him to school because of my work schedule and safety issues involved in crossing busy city streets.

Have there been any discussions about what these incentives might be and at whom they would be directed?

Thank you,

White shirts for gym class was a challenge for our family. We spent quite a bit of time trying on different shirts and undergarments. White is revealing, girls are conscious of their developing bodies, need I say more? I wrote a note to Ms. Higgins suggesting a darker color (red?) for future consideration, especially for the 6th grade.

Not sure that any 8th grade parents, students, teachers or staff read this forum. If they do this would seem like a good time for introductions.
My name is Cori Rivers and I'm Beatrix's mom. She is in 8-45. This is our 5th year at RPEMS, starting when my older daughter Ursula (now at Poly) started 6th grade.

My daughter, Oona, is in Ms. McGuiness' class. I'm wondering how many kids are in the class. If you know, please share. It's hard to interact with the teacher with all the chaos of the new year. Will there be a class parent like we had last year?

Ms. Rice. Welcome to 2nd grade! How many kids are in your class? How are you liking your first week as a 2nd grade teacher? Do you need computers or other items in your classroom? This may be a good place to make requests from parents. We'll see how it goes.
